The statement came during his visit to Germany, the Khabar-24 TV channel reports.

Tokayev says the situation in the east of Ukraine should be resolved in a Normandy format of talks.

He noted that Kazakhstan was ready to mediate and provide a platform for resolving the issue.

“Our first president expressed his goodwill, proposing mediation efforts on the territory of Kazakhstan, but of course, we believe that Ukraine’s problems should be addressed first of all in a Normandy format,” Tokayev said.

Speaking about the upcoming summit in Paris, the president of Kazakhstan wished the parties good luck, saying that friendship and cooperation connect his country with Ukraine.

“We sympathize very much with the Ukrainian people, believing that this nation deserves a quiet good life,” he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in an interview with Deutsche Welle, Tokayev said he did not believe that the events in Crimea could be called “annexation”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine summoned the Kazakh ambassador over the said statement by the country’s president.
